Wondering how the JSE's share price will be impacted I bought some recently, not a lot, but still. It would appear as if the JSE is at an all time high which means... I need to sell soon.

ZAR X has renounced its conditional FSB licence to run a stock exchange, which it said short-circuits the repeated appeals and legal applications by the JSE which could delay its launch. The ZAR X is a new securities trading platform that is introducing T+0 settlement and clearing and will offer a “user-friendly stock exchange in competition with the long-established monopoly of the JSE”. ZAR X director Geoff Cook said the conditional licence was initially granted in keeping with recognised practice adopted by international regulators. “From a practical perspective, a conditional licence is irrelevant to the core process,” said Cook. “It is not stipulated as a necessary preliminary step in the Financial Markets Act and this is what the JSE objected to.” Cook said the JSE has stated it welcomes competition, but has lodged objections, appeals, and applications since August 2015. Cook said this “pattern of delay and obstruction” had gone on so long it amounted to “bad faith”. The JSE’s legal team recently focussed on the FSB registrar’s right to grant a conditional stock exchange licence. “By renouncing the conditional licence we clear away any justification for the latest round of delaying tactics.” “We have complied with all FMA requirements and all procedural and operational points subsequently raised by the FSB.” ZAR X previously said it intends to be operational by September. Risk to me is a funny thing. Since I don't see it as risk if I don't spend my life's savings so to speak. Take Lonmin and MTN, both would be classified as risky investments at the time yet to me it was a easy win form the start, they where low they wont close so what is the result? Ride the wave and take the profit. On a more serious note regarding derivatives and futures? This link should answer that question in a lot more detail than what I can come up with: Link -> http://www.investopedia.com/articles/active-trading/110614/futures-derivatives-and-liquidity-more-or-less-risky.asp Futures are a great vehicle for hedging and managing risk; they enhance liquidity and price discovery. However, they are complicated and one should understand them before taking on any trades. The call for regulating standardized derivatives (exchange or OTC based) could have the negative side effect of drying up liquidity to fix something that is not necessarily broken.

Here is my pick of websites where South Africans can view the election results: Independent Electoral Commission Website – The election results are published live on the IEC website. Link: https://www.elections.org.za/LGEDashBoard2016/ Alternatively the IEC App ====== The first results of the 2016 municipal elections began to trickle in at 21h00 on Wednesday night, 3 August, after polls closed shortly after 19h00. Leading up to the 2016 Local Government Elections, there were over 26 million voters on the national voters’ roll. The true reflection of how many of these registered voters cast their ballot will emerge as results continue to stream in. The elections have been touted as the most competitive yet, particularly in the three metros of Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape, Tshwane, and Johannesburg. And as the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) faces the arduous task of counting up all the votes around the country, it may take some time before all the results are out. From businesstech

Interest depends on location.

Hey, what is the location?

Very good point, I have been thinking of this myself, no matter what the outcome tomorrow due to the three very diverse parties, somewhere something is going to give. There is no clean break when it comes to this.

[video=youtube] Princes of Yen is a film based off of a book by Professor Richard Werner who was a researcher that visited the Bank of Japan during the 90’s crash which saw the market fall by about 80% and house prices rise 84%. The film sets about revealing the real cause behind this and how once beaten in World War II it’s society was molded to suit the plans of those in power, to which the citizens themselves were kept in the dark about.

I am looking at Trusco again I have been watching them for years. Duel listed here and in Namibia but what attracts me is they own and bought up a lot of prime land surrounding Windhoek and waiting to sell it later on when there is no property available something like that.

[Freelancing] Pricing yourself/services
Spreadsheet Ranger replied to Spreadsheet Ranger's topic in Business Finance
From an accountants perspective...we also sell our time/hours. But we are professionals with ethics and techniques in place to regulate the time spend so that we keep it fair to us and the clients.... so we see it that we and the client are working together. True and I can understand it, I think one should look at it as a per "profession" case since as a Web Designer this quote summed up my life: Karen continued, “since there are only so many hours in a year, it puts a cap on how much revenue you can collect in a year, and it means that the only way to make more money is to work more hours. These are limits…and the truth is, they are false limitations that lead to bad behaviors, like burning yourself out by working around the clock in an effort to earn more. -
Wow, just had quite a revelation. I have always wondered how to put a price tag on what I do. It’s the eternal struggle of the freelance worker: how do you price your work in a way that’s fair to both you and the client? I asked this question on Mybroadband and the member there pointed out I must read an E-book called Breaking the Time Barrier, well I just finished reading it and my perspective is changed forever. I did the per hour cost plus thing since forever as I was under the impression that is the norm and the only way to do it, well one thing I always battled with was what if I work faster on one client and slower on the other one and lo and behold this book touched on exactly that: What changed my perspective was that the book suggested the following ( This is a quote from MyBroadband ) Value Based Basically - say you're creating a site for someone that sells a R 40 000 product off the site and you're confident that you can get them 5 sales a year due to the website upgrade then they shouldn't have a problem paying you R 120 000 for the site. Their investments is paid off in under a year, pretty good returns! So interesting read and I would say a must for any Freelancer or prospective Freelancer to find out how to price what you do.

A seven-notch downgrade is quite extreme and can conceivably come as a shock to both the issuer and investors. Therefore, this situation begs the question: what went wrong? It seems that in 2015, PPC became aware that it would need more capital in the future, and even considered a capital raise in September. As part of its planning process, the company mandated the commercial (that is, non-rating) unit of S&P to come up with a dummy rating in order for PPC to determine the potential value of any capital- raising initiative. Unfortunately for PPC, the information gathered as part of this exercise was subsequently used by the S&P ratings arm to trigger an “event-driven review”, which then resulted in the company’s downgrade to junk status. What makes it worse, is that PPC was unaware of the acceleration clause in its DMTN programme.

Saw PPC got downgraded to junk over night.

Hey Hey, Welcome. Personally I use EasyEquities.co.za for my TFSA/TFIA regarding the fees, I might be wrong here, but I think I only pay the fees included in the actual ETF price so I invest primality in ETFs classified as Collective Investment Schemes. Then regarding fees again might be wrong here, but I think SECURITIES TRANSFER TAX (STT), CAPITAL GAINS TAX (CGT), DIVIDEND WITHHOLDING TAX (DWT) ON DIVIDENDS EARNED and TAX ON INTEREST EARNED is all exempt. So no costs there. Then Easy Equities has no monthly fee and also no monthly investment limit so I put in however much I have that month available which I love this flexibility makes me more at ease for in case life happens. Then admin/broker fee. Easy Equities has a 0.25% brokerage fee, so investing R250 in my TFSA would mean I have R249.05 (99.62%) invested.

Exciting times ahead I wonder how the markets will react from tomorrow and the rest of this week. This should increase the liquidity of the overall JSE. I hope it's good I'd love to get some headway now.
