EasyEquities #PlayInTheUSA

Recommended Posts

EasyEquities are preparing to launch their US share trading platform and I guess this competition is both a beta test and PR thing for them. I saw shares like Tesla, Facebook and Apple on there so real potential here. Join the game (link below). All it takes is your name, email and phone number:

I tried to pre-register, but I'm not getting past the initial details screen.

What's you're guys thought on the tax implications if this gets implemented for actual investment ?

That's an interesting question. No idea but if I had to take a guess it will probably be seen as money leaving the country and taxed according to that. Not sure if capital gains will be applicable should you bring it back though. But there might be taxes from offshore governments.

On the other hand, if we're using a local exchange like EE and they don't have a company based offshore it'll probably be taxed exactly the same as investing in local equities.

Wonder if SARS knows?

Anybody here bought ETFs? Are they showing up in your account overview?

EasyEquities - they have brilliant ideas but really lack the technical know-how and/or quality assurance to make one completely comfortable using them.

Over the last 3 years my issues with them have been:

* charging STRATE on ETFs

* The wrong amount of shares allocated to my portfolio

* charging STRATE on ETFs...again (AMIB50 btw, they are reimbursing those that bought it and got charged)

* ...and now the issues with playintheusa which is running on the seemingly same platform as the rest of their stuff

... * wrong stock codes

... * ETFs gone missing

They need to step up their game if they want to keep clients come March when we can move our TFSAs.
