    Hi

    Welcome new person!
  3. @SimonPB did a analysis of their results, does not sound good. https://justonelap.com/managing-multiple-trading-systems/
  4. I never understood why you would actively choose to open your headquarters in Johannesburg if Cape Town was a option.
  5. South African businessman Mathews Phosa said he accepted a nomination to stand as president of the ruling African National Congress. Phosa will challenge Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, a former chairwoman of the African Union Commission, who are seen as the frontrunners to succeed President Jacob Zuma as the party’s leader at a conference in December. Dlamini-Zuma is the president’s ex-wife. Zuma is under pressure after S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings Ltd. responded to his firing of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan last month by cutting their assessments of South Africa’s international credit to junk. There have been growing calls for him to step down, and he faces a vote of no confidence in parliament that’s been postponed pending a court ruling. “I think my movement is in a crisis, my country is in a crisis,” Phosa said by mobile phone on Sunday. A lawyer, Phosa is a director at coal and platinum companies, and was previously treasurer general at the ANC. He was nominated by the ANC ward in Cape Town. The leader of the party will stand in the country’s general elections scheduled for 2019, with Zuma having served the maximum two terms allowed under the constitution.
  6. Does that mean that ABSA is NFEMOM's market maker and Sygnia is DbxWD's market maker or is the market maker some other entity? I am also new to all this. I wanted to ask Phatphil's question for ages, but was afraid it's a noob question.
  7. Seems to be something to do with the https vs non https try this link - http://www.stealthywealth.co.za/2016/09/investing-for-stealthy-junior.html (I think PW converts all links to https SSL) @Agent47 I don't think you should open a TFSA for the kid, too many variables for what he might need that money for or quite frankly when he turns 18 he might end up being a teenager and spend it all on hookers and blow and then he ruined his TFSA for it. (Tongue in cheek example of course)
  8. I should actually download Google Earth again. I used to print out maps and frame them. Massive things 3 meters by 2 meters and up. Then that business closed down.
  9. Hope you enjoy the forum.
  10. That's actually an interesting point about the Top40 being mostly offshore already. I have often wondered if I should sell my Satrix 40 unit trust and just double down on a DbxWD ETF, the reason I still have the Satrix Unit trust is because I also thought most of them are offshore earnings.
  11. I wonder what will happen to the ALSI over the next 4 years. Maybe I should move this over to the ALSI thread - JSE ALSI
  12. This downgrade is hitting deeper and deeper.
  13. @Kristia van Heerden wrote a nice blog post about investing in Japan https://justonelap.com/etf-case-investing-japan/
  14. Is the amount of you you have invested enough to make a dent in your bond payment? I will not sell (pull out of EE) unless the stocks you are holding are doomed example something that are solely South African based however if your shares are quality stocks like Capitec or Naspers or PSG or something then this might actually be a buying opportunity. Quality companies are far better at riding out bad times than what people think.
  15. JOHANNESBURG, April 10 (Reuters) - South Africa's bourse will investigate an increase in the trading of certain securities in the hours before former finance minister Pravin Gordhan was recalled from an international investor roadshow, BusinessDay newspaper reported on Monday. On March 27, news broke that President Jacob Zuma had ordered Gordhan to return immediately from a trip to Britain and the United States. Gordhan was later dismissed in a cabinet reshuffle. newspaper reported that the Johannesburg Securities Exchange was examining trading in securities that were affected by news of the recall. Officials at the exchange would not initially confirm or deny the report when contacted by Reuters. The report said that the exchange would seek to identify activity that might warrant further investigation by the Financial Services Board's market abuse department. "The news precipitated material moves in the value of numerous listed securities including currency futures," the exchange's director of market regulation Shaun Davies is quoted as saying by the paper. Davies declined to say which securities were being investigated, but it is likely that banking stocks will be among them, the Business Day said. The rand weakened by about 2.5 percent ahead of the news, according to Thomson Reuters data, falling further after the recall was confirmed. Speculation of large bets on currency futures at around the same time also surfaced, causing market watchers to speculate the currency was being "shorted", local media reported. Short-selling refers to the selling of instruments that have been borrowed, in anticipation of a fall in prices. 16. Such a sad state of affairs now. On the one side we want to believe this will not be the case with us, we are unique etc. However, reality is we are in for a tough 7 years to come imo.
  17. Yea I think the only way you can claim that is if you are freelancing or self employed? Might be wrong here. Although according to this (https://www.taxtim.com/za/help/definition/wear-and-tear) you can claim it on your personal laptop, justifying how you came to the "90%" bit might be a bit more difficult.
  18. Maybe @Groovy he seems to be fishing for some bank related stocks. @Dancshares sounds like someone who might know too
  19. My TFSA is currently just DbxWD so I will continue to buy it each month. After reading the E-book I want to split it up to add a bit of that NFEMOM I like how it works. So thinking now might be a good time to pick it up.
  20. Those who own DbxWD. Lucky, your bet is finally paying off it seems. /Looks at my little mid cap ETF
  21. Prepare for a slaughter. Tomorrow morning we wake up and Gordhan is no more.
  22. I would like to see Grand Parade (GPL) I like their Donuts
