  1. If local - would consider Storage - SSS - storage units Hyprop - HYP - pretty much top end retail - always grows dividends - although forecast to slow down slightly. Has (I think 20%) overseas exp Fairvest - small urban, often township centers. Seems they have found a gap and execute really well. Always grow yields. Overseas - Ecko Polska - polish retail - sure, you pay 20% tax but you do get euros.
  2. It's one of the way these very low TER ETF's make a bit of extra cash - lending out a portion of their book to for a fee.
  3. Anyone else having issues trying to reserve this through EE TFSA? Tried friday and today, click email - takes me to my account, enter amount, click apply, and, and, and, nothing...?
  4. Just be aware there are some issues using GT247 MT5 - mainly because MT5 was designed for FX/ futures - which get traded more or less 24/5 with pretty low spreads. 1) You cannot place OR modify OR cancel orders when the market is closed - can be a huge issue when you have a buy order about to be hit and some nasty news comes out after hours... 2)The do not action stops on last traded price (like every other broker!!) - but on the buy or sell price. This can make a huge difference (especial on thinly trade counters) and actually makes a mockery of thier charts which operate on last trade price. But they are the cheapest and with no minimums, you can start trading CFDs with a tiny account. But, for me anyway, have had to chuck auto stops out the window unfortunatly - and rather go manual. They also seem to have a better range of JSE counters to trade. They are aware they have issues - and they do say they are trying to resolve them - so will see.
  5. ABSA (all) have shockingly bad charting software - might as well not have it it's so bad. BUT the best for TFSA and for their ETF only offering. EE depends on how much you are investing and duration. If your min trade is going to be R20K+ might be worth looking elsewhere. You can use it for swing trading liquid counters. Have check prices with my other accounts numerous times and they do give the best offer price at time of purchase. Guys that don't understand bid/offer should stay away - maybe let an adult do their investing for them. GT247 (MT5) - CFDs - so for day/swing trading. Fantastic scalping/ day trading platform - not the best for swing trading as you cannot modify/place orders after the market closes - bit of a problem. 0.2% costs on buying and selling with no minimums, super cheap. R68 (+-) p/m for live prices. For charting I use investing.com with a free account. Fantastic - some prices are live, others 15min. You can save charts as well.
  6. Hold till close on LDT (last day to trade) Div is already "priced in" - in will fall +_ around the value of the div the next day - maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. Obviously they have sold a huge chunk of their business, and this will be reflected in the shares price the next day. I have LDT listed as the 9/1/2018 - could be wrong - but check. BTW remember 20% div tax.
  7. Not being able to modify/place orders after market closes is really starting to irritate me...
  8. Maybe - but then why not just 1? The more diverse in companies/sectors and geographic areas, the less risk. Also, most stocks are cyclical to a certain degree - so would the holder be prepared to be rotating stocks? No one size fits all - thank goodness otherwise we would all be buying the same few stocks - and we will have 5 NPNs and the rest would be on a pe of 2.
  9. Two others that needs consideration would be Aspen and ABinbev - might have a bit too much local bias with those ten.
  10. just tried with clearscore.co.za - I have never done one before. Got 680/705. Probably worth doing once in a while to make sure there are no issues with ID theft ect.
  11. Firstly, my portfolio is so in the red this year, I don't think I believe myself anymore... That said - to me this looks like an over reaction. Looks like some creative accounting was used - could be even on the criminal side. Debt seems to be the issue -but as is, the business seems to me cash positive. So once everything get out in the open ( and they will clean house and declare everything!) - I expect a rights issue to clear some of the debt.. Personally, do not put this is the same group as Africa Bank which was run by idiots. These guys are smart but have way to much debt and need to restructure - like Super Group did. Personally - think it's worth taking a small, speculative position with the idea to hold at least a year. And if you have eyed STAR - obviously a good time to pick that up as well.
  12. Got some @ 2720 - pretty happy with that, but my avg cost is still R75 on that account. On my other account avg is R111.50 - ouch.
  13. The five picks I sent to FM for 2018 Aspen EOH Lewis Finbond Ecko Polska To be fair did not put too much thought into it.
  14. dieWerner - move to another broker then - not hard.
  15. Think it would worth trying - there is usually an increase on the day, and decrease the next day - so maybe buy 2 days before/ sell 2 days after. Do that 30 - 40 times and get 2 - 5% compounded every time. Even if only half worked out that would be a pretty good year.
  16. All you have to do is own the shares at 17H00 on LDT (not three days before ) - you can sell them the next day if you want - pay date has nothing to do with it. The shares are mean't to drop by the dividend amount the next trading day. sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Obviously, you not the first one to have this idea - I have oftened wondered how it would play out.
  17. BTW - listened to that podcast - it's around a year old. He liked Master Drilling (down 4%) and Santova (up 18%) over the year and did not like Rhodes - up 16%. He comes out with a few good points - not enough to make me sell, but probably won't add to my holdings. BTW - I am up 32% on it.
  18. @ Spreadsheet ranger Yeah, had a couple hundred bucks in my EE account and thought I would buy a few TAS - but by the time I got there the spread had widened BTW - right now (through my absa account) the spread is 227 - 250 - so pretty big. Certainly not EE's problem TASTE TAS 227 226 225 220 215 5 800 11 500 22 822 2 000 46 000 250 255 259 260 265 9 882 8 686 30 000 21 561 23 652 looks sh$t but you might be able to work it out 5800 bid @ 227 ect. Anyway - piced up a few Capco's - but really, very little. Had a few thousand sitting in my ABSA account and have placed a limit order for Stenprop - hopefully get it at my price, but things look like they may be reversing slightly. Have a very small FX account that I am just playing with so made a sew $'s this morning. Trying my hardest not to give it all back At the moment.
  19. Just one lap is a nightmare to navigate, but he had a podcast recently about rhodes food. Apparently is very bad. I will see if I can find the podcast. Found the podcast and will have a listen tomorrow - cheers. I try not to let others influence my decisions - but I find the more information I get, the better my decisions become.
  20. I do like Rhodes - have a small (2%) holding - very happy with their last results - i am hoping for t to be a nice steady gainer for quite a few years - seems they made some good acquisitions with their listing cash. Shoprite has never really excited me out of the food retailers. Will be adding a bit in the near future and already have tiny holdings in Spar and WHL which i think I will add to. Both have a nice hard currency edge (so has Rhodes) which I am now starting to value.
  21. wow - that's pretty high for one counter and a small cap at that as well as most would say next results are probably also going to be so-so. But, nothing worse than knowing what bus to take, only to see the bus take of without you boarding!
  22. I also have it as a long term hold - and am fairly confident in it and for that reason have become a bit overweight in the stock - around 4.5%. Time will tell, I guess!
  23. TAS is bouncing around a bit - one would think you would have a good chance of picking it up at 220 in the next couple of weeks. I still think we quite far out to having a great trading update to really send the share skywards. They rushed the Domino's conversion, now they going EXTREMELY slowly on the Starbucks rollout. Eish, would have thought they could have aimed for 5 this year - but only 2 is forecasted. That said, maybe they want to sort out Domino's first, which might not be bad thing.
