Brian Joffe, the founder of South Africa’s Bidvest, will list a 2 billion rand ($150 million) investment firm, Long4Life, on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange next week, the firm said in a pre-listing statement on Friday. Joffe will provide 100 million rand of the capital himself and institutional investors will subscribe for the rest before listing the firm on April 7. The firm will not raise any more capital on its listing date. Long4Life aims to be more nimble than traditional private equity funds and will build up a diversified portfolio of listed and unlisted assets. The firm will initially focus on South Africa as it needs more scale to invest abroad, Joffe told Reuters. “It’s an opportunistic, entrepreneurial play,” he said. The firm will most likely not invest in industries such as deposit-taking banks, mining and resources companies, he added. Joffe will be Long4Life’s chief executive and only employee to start with, and the firm will aim for returns of in excess of 15 percent per annum in the medium to long term. “Long4Life will pursue investments predominantly with a lifestyle focus. These could include businesses in the beauty, outdoor, sport, retirement villages, and restaurants, among other sectors,” the firm said. Long4Life will have the share code L4L on the JSE.

Just to be clear, you are aware of the last button that will take you to the last post. The link will go to the first post.

Correct, that "special" shorthand call back was built a short while ago was planning on doing that tonight hehe. When I initially tried it had a funny non pretty url call back using nonsensical string I had to generate the url using php to get the current users id to go find in the db what the last post was that the user read. Then a better function lastpost was built to get the last id in a thread from the db

Will have a look into it, see what can be done. I tried it initially, but there was some nasty bug preventing the smooth operation.

The purpose of the E-book was to get people to embrace the fact that the government is giving you the incentive to invest by making it TAX free. So the difference between your EasyEquities TFSA vs normal EasyEquities account would be that in the TFSA your gains are tax free and your dividends are tax free. In the main account you will pay capital gains tax and dividend withholding tax. So to put it more practical: If Johny and Jane buys the exact same ETFs on the exact same time paying the exact same fees and share price. However Johny bought it inside his TFSA and Jane bought it in her regular account. 5 years from today the money Johny owns will be more than Jane, because Jane will have to pay all the associated taxes that Johny avoided in his Tax Free account.

Steinhoff International Holdings N.V. Shoprite Holdings Limited (Incorporated in the Netherlands) (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number: 63570173) (Registration number: 1936/007721/06) Share Code: SNH JSE Share Code: SHP ISIN: NL0011375019 NSX Share Code: SRH ("Steinhoff") ISIN: ZAE000166997 ("Shoprite") WITHDRAWAL OF JOINT CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT Shareholders of Steinhoff and Shoprite (together “the Companies”) are referred to the joint announcement of the Companies on 14 December 2016 (“the Cautionary Announcement”), regarding the negotiations between the Companies, initiated by the Public Investment Corporation SOC Limited (“PIC”) and Titan Premier Investments Proprietary Limited (“Titan”) as the largest shareholders of the Companies. The Cautionary Announcement dealt with the potential sale of Steinhoff’s Africa retail assets to Shoprite (“the Proposed Transaction”), as well the possible exchange by the PIC and Titan of their Shoprite shares for Steinhoff shares at an “to be agreed” ratio (“the Share Exchange”). Shareholders of the Companies are hereby informed that the Companies have decided to terminate their negotiations related to the Proposed Transaction as the PIC, Titan and Steinhoff could not reach agreement on the exchange ratio that would apply to the Share Exchange. The Proposed Transaction was investigated and analysed by the respective management teams of Steinhoff and Shoprite, and although the Proposed Transaction presents exciting opportunities for the Companies and their respective management teams, the fact that the relevant parties could not reach an agreement in respect of the Share Exchange resulted in the negotiations being terminated. Accordingly, shareholders of Steinhoff and Shoprite are advised that caution is no longer required to be exercised by shareholders when dealing in their Steinhoff and/or Shoprite securities. That can be done. The bigger issue is the actual naming convention. Grand prize/rank - Warren Buffett? Or is that a little bit too cliche?

Since the initiation of this thread the growth has been exponential. Being a free to use platform for investment advice and guidance on how to use your money, ironically, there is not really a marketing budget; in order to accelerate the growth of our member base even further, I'd like to appeal to everyone who have gleaned even just a stitch of knowledge - to spread the word and make us known. A little word of mouth campaigning can go a long way in benefiting our little, but growing community. If you have any suggestions and ideas that you feel might add more value, or any other suggestions feel free to post your suggestions in the following thread: https://www.platinumwealth.co.za/forum/Thread-Forum-Suggestions -
