I see a lot if not all the shares who have a straight line started changing in 2015 it scares me cause I the graphs tells you nothing anymore. This is what it looks like to me ( AT BEST ): Real world examples: MAPPSG DBxWD STXINDI Capitec

I am reading up on MAPPSG, it looks like something I want, it looks stable. I think I am going to sell my MTN's if it hits R130 today and then buy into MAPPSG since MTN is a top holding in that fund. Is that fund actively managed ie MTN is very low now lets think best case scenario and it starts recovering can MAPPSG change their MTN weighing at will?

I see Simon doesn't like the SWIX -> http://justonelap.com/getting-grips-fees/

I did not know MAPPSG reinvests the dividends for you. That is wonderful I think I too will look a bit more closely at them.

When the JSE is down over 1% I would expect gold to skyrocket.

What is wrong with adult children living at home?
Spreadsheet Ranger replied to PirateJack's topic in General Chat
I see it as a way for the child to avoid growing up. There's no need to get a "real" job, since "rent" is usually pretty low, "food" is usually pretty low (just special items), car expenses can be low (borrows the parent's car and only pays gas for what he/she uses, no insurance), cell phone pretty low (family plan) and usually utilities aren't part of the deal. That means he/she can get by making a few Ks a month. But what happens when the parent dies, or moves, or can't support this? Then this "adult-child" must grow up and usually can't cope. So I think it's a bad idea. Now, if it was a compound, with bills all split equally, a separate living quarter (like a house) for each, etc, then I think it would be more ok. -
I am too afraid to go for gold. What is lonmin up to lately? I won't mind jumping back into that emotional roller coaster again.

Sasol I think is a good thing to have in your portfolio for some oil exposure in the long haul, but I don't own them yet. MTN on the otherhand eish tomorrow is my D-day when I was under the impression that it would have been a R135 stock. So now I need to keep it for longer avg purchase price is R127.

What do you use to manage your finances?
Spreadsheet Ranger replied to Spreadsheet Ranger's topic in General Finance
I found this Excel sheet from google docs -> Monthly budget ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HulihfZVTBr6Dy038AF6I5bY9bAua2gnUsbGaPymXfg/edit?usp=sharing ) The problem is that sheet is in Dollar, is there a way I can convert that into R without having to change each cell and formula manually? -
Oh my sack! I sold purple last week, because the share was just sitting there doing nothing.
-
What do you guys use to manage your personal finances and budgeting? I have the 22Seven app, but I end up using it almost never due to Capitec being a las to sync with each time. I recently started using Pastel Mymoney, but yea with Capitec the syncing is a bit bad so it takes forever. Use to have a spreadsheet that I used and to be honest the spreadsheet is still the best possible way the only problem is it is not portable that thing must be viewed on a 27" screen to make out what is going on, that is where there general apps have the upper hand imo.

I hope you are right. I want to restructure my portfolio now. Cut the games and start getting serious. By serious I mean less reckless and more mythological and informed.

Negative GDP growth possible Recession coming
Spreadsheet Ranger replied to Spreadsheet Ranger's topic in Investments
How does a country prevent it? What will our government need to do in order to prevent a recession? -
Of course!! I forgot. Well phew that means I don't need to out away 5K per month just into the TFSA
-
I need to pay serious attention on how I need to go about this regarding the combination of ETFs I thought about DIVTRX, but I'm not sure I dont see the benefit in dividends unless you have 200k + invested in that dividend share/ETF So what I want to focus on in my TFSA is capital growth. Aggressive capital growth.
-
I hope tomorrow is a little better. Atleast just those two property ones I own then I can sell them for profit and buy PTXTEN. Then next month I want to start building my TFSA I need to work hard and watch my spending habits to try and MAX that limit in the remaining 6 Months left of this year.

Odd, I haven't lost anything today, which is usually what happens most days This is just my one portfolio my smaller one (R15K in total), but percentage wise it's been a mess. JSE : PSG JSE : ROC JSE : NEP JSE : TAS And the shocker -> JSE:RAR ( luckily only have 1000 rond in there )

This has been my worst day since I started 6 years ago. This year actually feels like a 2008/9 redo or hint to a looming 2008/9 repeat.

So I just saw on twitter -> https://twitter.com/SimonPB/status/740476755853606912 That we had a negative GDP growth, how does this work in terms of if we get another quarter then we will be in a recession if I understand it correctly? Question: What does a Recession mean to average joe? How does a country (us) avoid it?
-
Was hoping to sell NEP and ROC today to buy PTXTEN, but unfortunately both ROC and NEP is down 2% each today so far.

Will we survive the junk rating?
Spreadsheet Ranger replied to Spreadsheet Ranger's topic in Investments
See the ZAR took a massive drop @ 14.8 now too scared to look at my DBx -
The TFSA from EasyEquities is brilliant. As for the return that will depends, it's actually a TFIA (Investment) so you can invest in ETF's tax free.
