It looks pretty volatile to me, dropped badly with Pravingate... I added it to my TFSA @ 5109 yesterday, when it looked like it was at the bottom, but my whole TFSA is dropping today except my STXIND is up 1%, where it was down 1.something% last week, weird

The guy who wrote the article is "Matthew le Cordeur", but I can't find an email to ask him if he could update it... http://www.fin24.com/Markets/Currencies/from-nenegate-to-brexit-see-what-moved-rand-the-most-20160714

Very interesting, even though it's a month and a half old, not sure who to contact to get an update after PravinGate...

Thanks for the link to that. From that same twitter account there is a list of "Top 10 stocks for the long term investor": and just for interest's sake, I plotted everything from the list to see if I followed that advise what would it look like, not too bad actually... even for a 1 month view it's good:

So, with all this Pravin k@k, my STXIND decided to start climbing today.. And it has gained by exactly the same amount that DIVTRX has fallen 1.7%, can Anyone tell me why? And if it's likely that DIVTRX will keep on falling?
-
I changed mine up a bit, doing a bit better now that STXIND is climbing: I'm in the green for a change, by a whole 0.82%

Look at the past year! It's the fourth time it happened! Someone, somewhere is doing something very dodgy. And getting rich. Does anyone know of a decent method to get instant sms/email alerts when a share plummets like this? It seems to stay that way for a day or two before it goes back up, and I would sure as hell like to know when it happens again!

Just compred 4 REITs/Property funds: One gains +-23% over a year, one loses +-23% over the same year. Given my track record, I probably would have invested with the wrong one as usual...

Does anyone here know anything about/invest in REITs? Saw this now on Fin24:Liberty to start Reit that will trade stock on JSE: http://www.fin24.com/Companies/Financial-Services/liberty-to-start-reit-that-will-trade-stock-on-jse-20160823 Could it be worth it to buy in right at the beginning of the trust?

hmm, tried going to the website: Website may be hacked??? Edit: Nevermind, seems to be working now...
-
I know how you feel, I've got 40% of my TFSA in STXIND, but hey, at least today I'm only sitting at R46 in the red...

Where I work our RA contributions come directly of our payslip and we are all forced to keep our RA's with Allan Gray, and with the financial planner that they appoint for us, so everyone here is in the same boat and can't change...

I just saw this today: EE is offering basket deals on their TFIA:. Has anyone here tried it? I'm not sure how good their choices are in the baskets, and they charge you a 0.50% basket fee

got a email from them just now, confirmed that dividend functionality is not available on the demo account...
-
Lol, spamming myself with their Autoreplies!
-
I asked that in my email, but still no reply. Think I'll resend the same email every hour until someone answers...

I just checked my EE account compared to my google finance tracking, and the dividends that i got on EE aren't showing in google finance, even though there is a setting that allows for dividend reporting: Has anyone else experienced this??? EE added all the divvies to cash automatically: Edit: I deleted the portfolio and imported the new report from EE, now the divvies show as cash in my account, R11.83 was missing so I added that as a cash deposit...
-
I'm actually in the green by a massive R525,58 Edit: Lol, it refreshed, now at R488.90...

Has anyone seen this from EE , they have an advertising campaign running this week - when you register an account, you get a share of R100,000 which you can invest as you please, offering you the chance to claim your share of R100 000 worth of equities http://www.ee123.co.za/ really really nice. unfortunately not available for existing investors.

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't get an email notification for this thread like I usually do? On the 14th July I decided to go all in with my Demo account on EE, sold all the kark that I had and bought as much as I could in LEW, and the share did well, guess other investors had the same idea, on the LDT I was up by 4% or something in a week and a half. The morning after the LDT, the damn price fell by 7.5%, like stated in the article mentioned. According to this article: "[...]In practice, the stock actually drops in price by the amount of the dividend once the ex-dividend date passes. If you sell the stock at that time, you do get your dividend, but you get less for the stock because the dividend is subtracted from the stock price.[...]" If I had remembered I would have sold everything at 9:01 that morning (while the price was falling) like I said I would... Sold this morning (at a loss, but if I get the dividends it should balance it out) and put everything in JSE: PGR, as their LDT is 1st Aug, trying my luck... so far I'm -1.67% loss... Anyway, NO, NO DIVIDENDS HAS BEEN PAID INTO MY ACCOUNT OR REINVESTED automatically, I emailed them this morning asking WTF, but no reply yet, only getting spam from them trying to sell me a Fully managed account... with some kind of Fee freeze for the rest of the year... BUT I have DIVTRX in my TFIA, and those dividends got paid into my account, not reinvested automatically... screenshot attached:

According to this article: "[...]In practice, the stock actually drops in price by the amount of the dividend once the ex-dividend date passes. If you sell the stock at that time, you do get your dividend, but you get less for the stock because the dividend is subtracted from the stock price.[...]" So if you know that the price will drop after the dividend pays out, could you then theoretically wait for the drop, and grab the shares at a discount while the price goes back up to its pre-dividend price, and then sell for a quick profit? Instead of buying for the dividends, buy for the discount?

bought R5k each of OMN, LEW, and TFG, which should pay out on 2016/07/25. The LDT for them is the 2016/07/19, but I definitely won't remember to go and buy three weeks from now. But now I need to remember to check if the dividends pay out on the 25th...

Checked now, JSE:IVTP isn't on easy equities, only IVT is available, completely different. And with famousbrands, EE is trying to rip you off with the spread again. And the only other higher paying entries (ECS A, B, C etc) also aren't available on EE, only ECS Ltd, again completely different. the rest aren't worth buying now.
