How do you evaluate the reliability of a proxy service?

I’ve recently been testing different proxy locations for a small project, and Italy is one of the places I’m considering. I’ve never used an Italy-based proxy before, so I’m curious about other people’s experience. Does choosing an Italian location make much difference when you need to check local websites or test how a service appears from Italy? I’d mainly be interested in general performance, stability, and how easy it is to work with.

When I needed to test how a few pages behaved for users in different countries I used local proxy. Italy was one of the locations on my list, so I spent some time comparing the available options. For me, the biggest things to compare are connection stability, available IP options, and how easy it is to manage sessions. I also like having clear location information before starting a test.
