That's an interesting question. No idea but if I had to take a guess it will probably be seen as money leaving the country and taxed according to that. Not sure if capital gains will be applicable should you bring it back though. But there might be taxes from offshore governments.

 

On the other hand, if we're using a local exchange like EE and they don't have a company based offshore it'll probably be taxed exactly the same as investing in local equities.

EasyEquities - they have brilliant ideas but really lack the technical know-how and/or quality assurance to make one completely comfortable using them.

 

Over the last 3 years my issues with them have been:

 

* charging STRATE on ETFs

* The wrong amount of shares allocated to my portfolio

* charging STRATE on ETFs...again (AMIB50 btw, they are reimbursing those that bought it and got charged)

* ...and now the issues with playintheusa which is running on the seemingly same platform as the rest of their stuff

... * wrong stock codes

... * ETFs gone missing

 

 

They need to step up their game if they want to keep clients come March when we can move our TFSAs.
