How to build an Ethereum mining rig

Indeed. I spoke to another guy who estimated R35k for R9-12K return per month.

Then again, this is all speculation.

I would love to jump in on this but without a guarantee, I can't really afford R35K on a mining rig.

Mathematically, it would take anything from 4-8 months to break even.

You're probably better off buying ETH with that and letting it appreciate.

Thoughts?

I'm far to lazy to be a miner, rather went the investment route

Personally I feel if you say invest 35k right now, 4 months down the line it might be worth double that.

So in theory you need to repay 70k before breaking even, but that's just my outlook.

For all we know the entire crypto platform can take a dive for the worst, which is not impossible. This is however a risk I'm willing to take.

The ETA for Casper/POS is end of 2017, early 2018/Q1.

I reckon you could still make a profit but the capital is costly.

FYI guys, IceCubed exchange has just recently revamped their whole exchange, and have included Ethereum, so now you can trade bitcoin, ethereum and litecoin there.

If you are a miner, and want to get some Rand fast, you can exchange it for Rand on www.ice3x.com and then withdraw direct to your bank account.

Great walk through! When you are making some ETH, please come and sell it at www.ice3x.com!!

I will give you a 'miner' trading fee structure for being a market maker, that will mean more profit for you on trades.

This is what one rig does (This is the rig in the tutorial). So you can start small and still make money.

Could you share the card settings you've got for max hash rate on equihash? I'm struggling to get over 400 per card

At that time it was mem clocked to 571, core clocked to -122 and power set to 68% - Used the 378.92 driver version on windows build 15063 with all updates disabled.

Latency on the network was below 8ms. ( You will not believe, but I have seen large drops in profit when the latency goes above 200ms)

New rigs we now flash the bios using NVIDIA NVFlash to get the power usage down essentially undervolting the cards.

That driver version broke all miners, claymore (eth) down to 10mh, equihash down to 200 or so... I'll have to keep looking

How good are you with some more advance stuff?

I want a easy to understand tutorial on how to use https://github.com/nicehash/nheqminer, because their documentation is written like horse bum.

Edit: Seems that project is abandoned, instead I would like to run https://github.com/nicehash/excavator

I am interested to know how the ROI is going?

eg - can you maybe give a summary of :

Initial expense

number/type of coins mined so far?

i know difficulty etc will keep this a changing goal, but  you are now over 3 months in , so will be nice to know

interesting dynamics. Still mining ETH only? or BTC?

Mining Ether and Zcash via nicehash on a good day and Sia + Ether using nanopool on a bad day.

@androux123 is mining monero if I recall correctly.

Good thing these GPU rigs are so versatile.

----

You can only mine Bitcoin using an ASIC miner which we do not have at this stage.

any changes needed on Card's when changing to another coin (cpu clocks / memory etc?)

Curious to know what the ROI is on this so far. The price of BTC has increased a lot since you started, and so has ETH I think.

Can you give an update?

Rigs are paid off. However that's thanks to the increase in btc price.

After August 1st the profitability practically halved.

It went from $24 per rig per day down to now $9 a on a good day.

The good thing for us is we got in when the hardware prices were very low (un-inflated).

@op Have you tried mining using the Nvidia GTX1050 ti? I have a few of them , planning on mining with them

They pretty decent for the power they use, can get about 15mh out of them, with very little power usage.

You would need quite a few to make any decent amount of money.

Hello Jeffery, welcome to the forum.

I have not personally mined with them, but I think @androux123 knows people who are mining with 1050s maybe he'll see this post and comment.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have imported quite a few of them, At the moment I am staking PIVX . Will mine some expanse using the 1050's

Would you say that I upgrade to 1070's about 20 of them. Or stick to the 1050 TI ?
