I know ASHGEQ is not close, but I chose PTXTEN for the growth and thinking property is safer, turns out its not, so will replace it with something that I think is more stable ie the S&P1200
avatar
When is it too much ETFs?
avatar
ASHGEQ + MAPPSG and you've got everything
avatar
Anyway
avatar
PTXTEN and ASHGEQ isn't close to the same though... what the hell?
avatar
There are a lot more ETFs coming.... so chill
avatar
I'd say both, or you'll be at the mercy of the Rand swinging the wrong way. But I ike your descriptions - ultimate global and ultimate local! :-)
avatar
I want to sell it and get me something safer like the Ashburton 1200 ETF, I am liking that one now. I am curious what Simon would prefer, that or the CTOP50 or... both. Ultimate offshore combined with ultimate local.
avatar
I cannot wait for PTXTEN to recover
avatar
Cool thanks, I had a look what EE offered and its that ABSA ETN and one with STD bank.
avatar
avatar
ABSA probably (NewFunds)
avatar
Think there is (or maybe an ETN)
avatar
Or is there some sort of Silver ETF?
avatar
Afternoon, I'm keen on buying a few 2017 One oz Silver Premium Uncirculated Krugerrands to keep for 20 years or so. Would this be the way to "invest" in silver?
avatar
Was hoping they would be the game changer, but JSE is still the same and it seems ZAR X is stalling?
avatar
Too quiet...
avatar
Very quiet... Sad
avatar
I see their blog was last updated in Oct
avatar
Does ZAR X still exist? I don't see them on the forum and I don't see them on EasyE either.
avatar
BOOM! There stands the guy with the longish hair telling me all the things I wish I knew earlier Big Grin
avatar
I remember the first time I met him at Standard Bank. We were on our way to listen to this Simon guy whom I've never seen before. On our way there we stop at the coffee shop and there is this guy with longish hair standing there ordering coffee. He doesn't look like any of the bank drones so he stands out like a sore thumb. Thought he was a client so just grabbed my coffee and walked into the boardroom
avatar
Simon is a legend
avatar
I don't think I trust anybody in the finance world, not the brokerage firms, not their owners and especially not the bloggers. Save Simon. Simon is cool Big Grin
avatar
avatar
I wouldn't let my financial advisor touch it though. She gets enough with my RA an other unit trusts. No need to involve her here Tongue
avatar
So depending on fees, Allan Gray, Coronation, Stanlib...they may not be such a bad option.
avatar
Not advocating it specifically, but if you look at Sygnia's Skeleton 70 fund - almost got everything you need (save the big Naspers allocation).
avatar
Mine is all ETF at the moment but when they allow us to move it to other providers one day I may give unit trusts for my TFSA a serious look
avatar
The market is still the best bet for your TFSA over the long term. Whether it be ETFs or unit trusts
avatar
The market slump isn't bad if you're thinking long term because you can buy ETFs cheap now. I've been meaning to get STXDIV for a while now, but it was about 13% overbought so not a good time to buy. Now, I can fill up my R33000 with STXDIV at a reasonable price! So it's not all bad... :-)
avatar
It's the only bet if I am not mistaken - @Bandit
avatar
Are ETF's still the best bet for TFSA's?
avatar
Lol, sorry
avatar
I have 1 year's worth of TFSA allocated to PTXTEN
avatar
Don't even.
avatar
Yeah, all my ETF's are green except for PTXTEN
avatar
At this stage if you have green you can thank the stars
avatar
All this crypto madness has made me greedy Sad
avatar
Could've been worse i guess, could've been in the red
avatar
5% growth in one and a half years
avatar
I just checked my ETF's after months, Y U SO FLAT?
avatar
Yea I think it's EasyEquities = 70% Purple Group and 30% Sanlam and then GT247 is 100% Purple Group along with GT private broking also 100% Purple Group owned.
avatar
Thanks.
avatar
Both belong to Purple Group, but they are separate businesses.
avatar
No its a completely separate account EE is for investing GT247 is a day trading platform
avatar
The account is not linked to EE is it?
avatar
Lol, 1 Lambo for everyone here. :p . Do you have a referral link to pm me? I have not created an account yet.
avatar
Remember us when you're a filthy rich Forex trader, 1 lambo should suffice.
avatar
Nice, thanks for you effort. Smile

@Brendan - >https://twitter.com/GT_247/status/960505471873486849
avatar
I asked them on twitter will see what they say.
avatar
Does GT247 have a demo facility available? I'm currently using Avatrade via Metatrader and would like to compare the two in terms of spread etc.

Viceroy comments on SARB statement - https://viceroyresearch.org/2018/02/05/v...statement/
avatar
NEPI Rockcastle the one etf I thought would be rock solid.
avatar
I remember spreadsheet used to have NAPI
avatar
I bought at its peak Sad
avatar
RES at -19%
avatar
Bidvest snd Shoprite are the only ones for me not completely recked by the last two weeks of BS. Even my Discovery is down Sad
avatar
Naspers is one of my buy and hold investments. I've already lost my Capitec shares to a stop loss, and they were also not meant to sell either. I only trade with 10% of my capital. The rest is buy and hold.
avatar
If you are trading and than is part of the plan, stick to it. Personally, don't have stops on my investing accounts and will only sell on fundamental reasons.
avatar
I'm worried about Naspers. They've lost 13% in the last 9 days and are soooo close to the 320000c barrier which will start a massive sell-off. I really don't want my Naspers to trigger my stop loss, but I have a rule never to cancel my stop losses. Ever. But this is Naspers, the top stock in the market. Don't know what to do... :-(
avatar
Sold those capitec shares at 912 almost at close on Friday. Had had two bad days on all my portfolio's, got gatvol, closed out of all my "right" sized trades and orders and chucked into Capitec on CFDS. Account went red a few times. Very stupid revenge trade. Anyway, very lucky to end green a few days later. But adding another rule to my play book - no trading of shares I haveany sort of bias a bias towards.
avatar
I am also so glad for for L4L, that and AXL are my star stocks so far. Would like for AXL to rally a little bit tbh.
avatar
It's everything, not just RES.. Fifth straight day of heavy losses. Small cap seens to be the only companies that are resisting the dive. Two of my stocks already triggered stop losses after losing 18% each, and even Naspers is heading that way it seems My Ellies, L4L, and STXQUA are my only stocks that are still green..
avatar
Seems bitcoin wants to gravitate towards $6000
avatar
I hope the Springboks recover
avatar
Something odd happening there.
avatar
Did I miss a SENS or something?
avatar
What the actual ****
avatar
RES is just falling more and more
avatar
nice article - Esp. "Remember, when you sell you are only forgoing possible future gains, whereas if you continue to hold you risking actual capital"
avatar
Oh trust me, it's crashing. Market Cap: $457,120,407,062 we were on $540 billion a few hours ago
avatar
India just ban crypto's so expect another crypto crash. :-(
avatar
Heavy days - pembury better pick up the slack this year.
avatar
Fourth dismal day in a row on the JSE. The last four days have dropped my portfolio by nearly 10%. When will this ever end?
avatar
avatar
Will be very interested to see how this CPI thing plays out. Have quite a few that I bought a few years ago at R175 - one of the only shares that propped up my underachieveing portfolio Sad Bought some cfds at 873 - will hold them for a few days and see what happens. -will cash out at 973 if it gets there .
avatar
Crypto ain't looking much better either. :/
avatar
The last few days have destroyed my entire last two month's growth and then some. What a nightmare.
avatar
Probably gonna bite me in the ass when they surge to R1500 or something ridiculous
avatar
Well, my Capitec shares sold this morning and I'm not buying new ones.
avatar
The irony is that the reason we bought Capitec in the first place was to avoid this kind of mess completely.
avatar
I don't have time for this kinda crap. Sells Capitec, buys L4L.... moving on
avatar
Why is Naspers down 6%?
avatar
Especially taking into account Capitec is largely low LSM citizens.
avatar
This might become bigger than we think. - I sincerely hope there is no run on the bank. South African's citizens cannot afford that at the moment.
avatar
Capitec now at 76500c
avatar
Wait for the US to wake up...
avatar
Year-on-year reconciliation of Capitec’s loan book, maturity profiles & cash outflows imply Capitec is either fabricating new loans & collections, or re-financing ~ZAR 2.5bn – 3bn (US$200m-$240m) in principal per year by issuing new loans to defaulting clients
avatar
avatar
This is going to sting - Capitec Viceroy report https://twitter.com/viceroyresearch/stat...1863219200
avatar
Let's hope it does not persist.
avatar
Maybe if the DayZero/Drought conditions persist. Eventually people will want to move out.
avatar
Do you guys think that #DayZero will affect property prices in Cape Town? - I am in the market for a flat to rent out.
avatar
Could be the Moody's report. Or something worse. You know something must be up when SYG4IR is the day's biggest gain!!!
avatar
Capitec invariably does bounce back, and usually to a higher level than it was before.
avatar
Well, maybe I should use my Greenbay money to buy Capitec at 94,000 per share and hope that it bounces back...
avatar
Yip. DSY is hit really hard as well. And my Greenbay properties stop loss triggered... :-(
